Fall 2004
Dear World Flower
Council Members and Friends,
On behalf of WFC Riga Summit
organisation committee I would like to take an opportunity to express
our gratitude to all WFC Members and Friends who traveled from afar to
join us for the 21st Annual WFC Summit in Riga, the City of Inspiration!
This year the Annual WFC Summit
took place in Riga during the City Celebration and was spectacular part
of the International Flower Festival, which was held in Riga Latvian Society
House. It was great success that her Excellence, the President of Republic
of Latvia, Vaira Vike-Freiberga visited International Flower Festival
and admired the arrangements created by the World Flower Council Designers.
We are very proud and pleased that our annual convention left some beautiful
features in the capital of Latvia!
The organisation committee
would like to thank the WFC board for their support, for putting their
trust in us, and for giving us the honour in organizing the 21st WFC Annual
Summit in Latvia. The help and support from the WFC International Chairman
Dean White was tireless, as well as Els Hazenberg, our counterpart from
the Netherlands, has put immense time and effort to make the Riga Summit
successful.
I would like to mention and
express our dignity to major sponsors – Flower Council of Holland
and Smithers Oasis of Denmark, as well as to our local supporters, thereby
we would like to thank to everybody who have contributed in organising
this event.
A special thank you to the
Designers, who shared their expertise in providing an unique atmosphere
for the summit creating their design works by theme “Inspired by
the Charm of Riga,” as well as desiging “Flower Sculptures.”
And we are particularly thankful to the commentators of the shows –
Els Hazenberg, Bob Newton and Joel Marc Frappier for their professional
contribution during the WFC Riga Summit.
At the end I would like to
emphasise that it has been indeed a great experience for all of us to
work on this summit and we have learned a lot. And I would like to thank
Ilze Zagata and Anita Kramena, my fellow members of the organisation committee,
for their hard work.
I believe that Flower bonfire
at the Riga’s Dome Square still warm your hearts and hope this summit
will forever remain in your memories! You are always welcome back to Latvia
again!
With best regards,

Ilze Daugule

News From
Our Chairman
Dear World Flower Council
Presidents, Leaders and Members
“INSPIRED BY THE CHARM
OF RIGA” was everything we could ever imagine, and much more. The
Ilzes and Anita and their capable working committee, all did an outstanding
job.
The FIRST INTERNATIONAL FLOWER
FESTIVAL in conjunction with the WFC Summit and the Latvian Florist Society
was a tremendous affair.
A very special surprise was
the arrival of her Excellence, The President of the Republic of Latvia,
Vaira Vike-Freiberg, attending the closing session of the International
design feature “Flower Sculpture.”
The Gala Evening was a most
sophisticated night with music, dance, vocals and a superb menu. The Small
Guild House was the venue for our last evening.
Poo Chesdmethee extended the
Invitation to Indonesia, Jakarta and Bali, for September 2005. He did
a great job for Ells Tiwar, our Host Chairperson, who was unable to attend
the Riga Summit.
Mr. Michel Gauthier and Joel
Marc Frappier of the Candian Tulip Festival, along with Mr. Bob Newton
of Canada invited WFC to Ottawa for the Tulip Festival in May of 2006.
They also extended an invitation to come in 2005 for a preview and to
plan for 2006.
Poo also invited all members
to come to Chiang Mai, Thailand in March of 2005. Poo plans a very impressive
WFC Regional meeting with attendees from 14 Asian countries and members
from several other countries.
Many innovative changes are
taking place with World Flower Council. The website is being updated.
The newsletter will now be placed on the web for you to view and print.
This will enable WFC to operate more economically. Home office is moving
to Scottsdale Arizona with a new mailing address and new email address.
Those will be noted in this newsletter.
My good wishes to each of you.
Have a great season this year and start planning for Jakarta and Bali
in 2005 and for Ottawa, Quebec, Canada in 2006.
Kindest regards,

Dean White, AAF, AIFD, PFCI
WFC International Chairman
