Winter 2004 Spring 2004 Summer 2004 Fall 2004

Winter 2004

Dear World Flower Council Members,

As we are still basking in the afterglow of our tremendous summit in Manila, it is now time to turn our thoughts to Riga, Lativa for August of 2004. The dates are August 19, 20, 21, and 22 in Riga. Arrivals are suggested for August 18th, as activities begin early on August 19th. There will be an evening activity with dinner and cultural Latvian entertainment on the 18th for those that wish to attend.

I have just returned from Riga and Copenhagen. Our charming host chairpersons, Ilze Daugule and Ilze Zagata, along with their partner, Anita Kramena, presented the fabulous plans of their city and country and for the gathering for 2004.

The summit will be affiliated with the International Flower Festival and the Latvian Florist Competition of 2004. The City and the Venues are very outstanding and most interesting. The Old City dates from the 1200's and it was a walled city in the beginning and has now evolved into a cultural city including castles, guild houses, churches and cathedrals and a wonderful collection of Art Nouveau buildings. They are the most complete total streets of Art Nouveau and are still in beautiful repair. The spires of the churches and the cathedrals highlight Old Town's skyline. We will be treated with an organ recital in Dome Cathedral with one of the largest and most famous organs in Europe. The total itinerary is listed in the newsletter with registration costs. Summit registation details and sign up forms will be forthcoming.

The venue for the summit is the Radisson SAS Daugava Hotel, a five star property located on the Daugava River, across from Old Town. We have taken a block of rooms at the Radisson with reasonable room costs. The benefits of the hotel include complimentary shuttle service to the Riga Airport and Old Town, as well as having a Health Club with pool, sauna and gym, beauty salon and shops, and a complimentary drink on arrival at the hotel. For those interested, there is a beautiful casino in the hotel. Room rates can be found on the summit itinerary. An alternate hotel that is less expensive has been selected and that will be shared with anyone on request.

The charm of Riga is magnetic. Everyone will love Old Town, the beautiful structures and the charming reception and personalities of your Latvian counterparts. Begin making your plans now, as this will be a summit to remember. See you Riga.

My best for the holiday season,

Dean White, AAF, AIFD, PFCI
WFC International Chairman
