News From Our Chairman

Dear World Flower Council Members and Friends,

My heartfelt and thankful good wishes are extended to each of you for 2005. 2004 was a great year for World Flower Council and growth continues around the world.

The Board of Directors, Officers and World Flower Council members, wish to extend to Asia our most sincere sympathy and concern for the disaster following the earthquake. We wish to express our kind thoughts and prayers for the unfortunate victims of this tsunami. May strength prevail!

We, again, reflect on the Charm of Riga, and are grateful for Ilze and her powerful committee.

This newsletter, the first for 2005 is online. Please read and enjoy. You may access the Newsletter via the internet at http://www.wordlflowercouncil.org/. Those paid members without computer and email will be mailed a copy of this publication. Please review the website, offer suggestions and or criticisms, as this is a group effort. Please also share any news from your chapter at any time.

The schedule of events for 2005 is on target. Poo's World Flower Council Asia-Pacific meeting for Chiang Mai, Thailand, is scheduled for March 17, 18 and 19, 2005. The schedule and details are highlighted on our Home Page. Poo invites all members of WFC.

In Canada, the student competition is scheduled for May 12 to May 15, inclusive. 40 students from North America are expected to attend. The Canadian Tulip Festival begins the first weekend of May 2005. The Canadian Academy of Floral Art weekend is May 20 to May 23. This is a very important happening. All WFC members and friends are invited to attend this very special weekend. The Theme is Friendship and Peace, and the New Canadian War Museum opens. Mr. Bob Newton and Joel Marc Frappier will be coordinating the interests of WFC with The Tulip Festival. This will be a preview for our Summit for 2006. The Summit will convene in Ottawa, Ontario and Gatineau, Quebec, Canada, on May 17 to 23, 2006. Details of the Canadian Floral art weekend for 2005 are available on request.

Our 22nd Annual World Flower Council Summit is scheduled for Jakarta, Indonesia, on September 4 to 8, inclusive, 2005, at the Hotel Mulia. Els Tiwar called today to advise there was no portion of the disaster in Jakarta, Surabaya and Bali. The disaster was more than a thousand miles away. No members of World Flower Council were affected. Els invites all members and guests of WFC from around the world to this prestigious event. Total details are available on line.

Plan now to attend any or all of these WFC events. Jakarta is a must.

The Donor Fund for WFC is growing and Mr. Meinders is matching any and all contributions up to $5,000.00. More than $3,000.00 has now been given. Let's help him fulfill his goal.

Have a great year and stay in contact, either online, by email or fax.

My best and kindest wishes to each of you,

Dean White, International Chairman, World Flower Council
